A Kindness Meditation for Thanksgiving

Did you know that yoga isn't just fun poses? Yoga is also about joining our hearts and minds with God through Jesus! Today's blog post teaches us a reflective meditation...a way of thinking about God's ways with our hearts.

Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it! --Hebrews 13:2

At Thanksgiving we celebrate the friendship showed to the Pilgrims by the Native Americans when the Pilgrims first came to North America. Have you heard that story?

The Bible teaches us that it is important to show kindness and hospitality to people who are different than we are. Sometimes we do this through a friendly smile, sometimes by serving those in our community, or raising money for a good cause. There are so many ways to show kindness to those who are different than us.

And you know what is so good about God? Sometimes, when we reach out to someone who is different than us, we find out that we have more about us that is the same than is different...and we become FRIENDS.

So talk with your mom or dad or grandma or grandpa or teacher. What are some ways that you together can make this Bible verse come to life by showing kindness to someone different? How can you show the love of God in your community today?

Do you already serve God by loving others, kids? Do you have a story about a stranger becoming a friend? We'd love to hear your stories! Tell us about it in the comments.

Give THANKS to the Lord

Give thanks to the Lord for He is good. His love endures forever. -Psalm 107:1

Several times in the Bible we are told to give thanks to God. God takes care of us by meeting all our needs and He blesses us by giving us even more than we need sometimes!

At Thanksgiving, we practice gratitude, or appreciating all the blessings we have been given. This is what our verse says: give thanks to the Lord for He is good!

At our house we talked about what yoga pose might be a good pose to help us remember our practice of gratitude. We decided on chair pose with wide arms to help us remember that God has given us more blessings than we could ever hold.

Bring your feet close together. Begin to bend your knees and sit back like you are sitting on a stool. Lift your arms up and hold them wide, like you are carrying all the ways that God is good to you. Say out loud to God a few things you are thankful for.
