I give you peace, the kind of peace that only I can give. It isn’t like the peace that this world can give. So don’t be worried or afraid.--John 14:27 CEV
The theme for the second week of Advent is PEACE.
Merriam-Webster for kids defines peace as: a state of quiet; freedom from upsetting thoughts or feelings; harmony in personal relations.
Sometimes having peace is hard for kids. They fight with their siblings or classmates. They feel pressure to perform at school or in sports. They may witness difficult relationships between their parents or other adults. Kids may worry about the things they hear on the news. Or sometimes kids are hard on themselves and think that they aren't good enough or smart enough.
The good news that comes with Christmas and Advent is that Jesus is The Prince of Peace, the Bible tells us in Isaiah 9:6. That means that He knows what peace is all about and wants to share that with us. Our verse above tells us that He gives us a special kind of peace that only He can give. That's one of our true Christmas presents!
Here's a Kids' Holy Yoga pose you can practice to remember Jesus' gift of peace. We call it Easy Seated Pose, but you can call it Peace Pose, if you want!
Take a seat on the floor and cross your legs. Sit up tall and feel like your back is as straight as an arrow! Now, either bring your hands to your knees with your palms up and open, ready to receive God's gift of peace OR bring your hands together at your heart in prayer position.
Take five long, slow breaths, in and out through your nose. Think about Jesus as the Prince of Peace and how He wants to give YOU the gift of peace. When you slowly open your eyes, pause a moment. Do you feel more peaceful?
